OpenEd partners with American Academy using the Indiana Choice Scholarship voucher program, which restricts recipients to those making 400% of the Federal poverty level or less. See income limits based on household size below to ensure you qualify.
*NOTE: Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, there will be no income limit and every Indiana resident can participate in OpenEd.

OpenEd is a program offered in partnership with The American Academy, an Indiana private school, eligible for the Indiana Choice Scholarship. There is no cost to families for participation.
You need to provide your 2024 Federal Tax Return (specifically the Adjusted Gross Income – AGI) in the enrollment process so we can verify that you qualify.
If your 2024 Federal Tax Return is unavailable or your income has significantly decreased due to certain life changes, you can provide alternative documentation, such as:
- W-2
- Unemployment compensation statements
- 1099s or bank statements showing earnings
- Social Security, pension, or annuity statements
- Military retirement benefits
- Employer statements on company letterhead
If your tax return is unavailable, you must explain why and submit the Household Summary Form with your supporting documents. This form will be available at enrollment.
