My Tech High, Inc., dba OpenEd ("OpenEd," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you visit or use the following (collectively, the "Services"):

  • opened.co and any sub‑domains;
  • The OpenEd Platform (our web portal sometimes previously branded as "Infocenter");
  • The OpenEd App and any successor mobile/web applications; and
  • Any other website or online service that links to this Policy, including our terms of use here: link

This Policy applies to parents/guardians, students, educators, and visitors in all U.S. states in which OpenEd operates. It also describes our compliance with COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), and relevant state student‑data privacy laws.

2. Key Privacy Principles

  • Minimal & Purpose‑Based Collection. We collect only the information needed to enroll students and deliver personalized K‑12 educational services.
  • No Sale of Personal Data. We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • Transparency & Choice. Parents and guardians can review, correct, or request deletion of student records, consistent with FERPA.
  • Security by Design. We employ industry‑standard safeguards, encryption, and secure cloud infrastructure (AWS) to protect data.

3. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information—plus any other data reasonably necessary to enroll students, deliver instruction, meet state or federal reporting mandates, secure our systems, or improve our Services. Examples include:

  • Parent/Guardian contact details (name, address, email, phone)
  • Student identifiers (name, date of birth, grade, state or district ID)
  • Enrollment & academic records (courses, grades, attendance, portfolios, special-program status)
  • Usage & device data (IP address, browser, app activity, cookies, log files)
  • Payment or stipend details (only the last 4 digits of a card, if applicable)
  • Support interactions and survey responses
  • Any additional information you or your school choose to provide through the OpenEd Platform, App, or Infocenter

We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and compile analytics. You can disable cookies, but some features may not function properly.

4. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  1. Enroll students with the appropriate school of record and comply with state reporting requirements;
  2. Provide personalized instruction and track academic progress;
  3. Communicate with parents, students, and educators (e.g., announcements, support);
  4. Process payments or stipends where applicable;
  5. Maintain security, audit logs, and fraud prevention;
  6. Improve the Services, develop new features, and perform analytics (using aggregated or de‑identified data where possible);
  7. Comply with legal obligations and protect rights, safety, and property.

We share student data only as needed to provide educational services or as required by law. Any marketing communications to parents/guardians are managed in compliance with CAN‑SPAM and can be opted out at any time.

6. Student Data & FERPA

  • Partner schools remain the education record holders; OpenEd acts as a "school official" under FERPA, using student data only for authorized educational purposes.
  • Parents/guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their student’s records by contacting either the school of enrollment or OpenEd at help@opened.co.
  • Upon contract termination with a partner school, OpenEd will, at its discretion and in accordance with FERPA and applicable law, either (a) transfer the student’s education records to another partner school selected by OpenEd so the student may continue enrollment, or (b) return or securely destroy the records if no such transfer is appropriate. The originating school acknowledges OpenEd’s discretion in this process and agrees to cooperate with any lawful transfer or destruction of data.

7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

OpenEd collects personal information from children under 13 only with verifiable parental consent or as a service provider to the child’s school consistent with COPPA. We retain children’s information only as long as necessary to fulfill educational purposes and delete it securely thereafter.

8. Data Security

  • Encryption in transit and at rest using TLS 1.2+ and AES‑256.
  • Role‑based access controls and two‑factor authentication for staff.
  • Regular penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and third‑party audits.
  • Incident Response Plan for prompt breach notification to schools and parents as required by law.

Request corrections through the OpenEd App or by email.

Deletion

Request deletion of data that is no longer necessary for educational purposes, subject to legal retention requirements.

Marketing Opt‑Out

Click the “unsubscribe” link in any marketing email or adjust preferences in your Account settings.

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as described in our CCPA Notice. We do not sell student data.

10. External Links & Social Media

The Services may link to external sites (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Instagram). OpenEd is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Your interactions are governed by the privacy policies of the third‑party platforms.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy periodically. If we make material changes, we will post the revised Policy and update the "Last Updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated via email or prominent notice on the Site. Continued use of the Services after the update indicates acceptance of the revised Policy.
