    OpenEd is a flexible education program that allows students to create personalized learning experiences while remaining enrolled in their local public school district. Students can combine traditional classes, online learning, community programs, and customized courses to build an education that fits their unique needs and interests.

    Any K-8 student who resides in Kansas and is eligible to attend public school will be able to participate in OpenEd. This includes students currently enrolled in public school, private school, or homeschool.

    OpenEd is funded through public education dollars, similar to traditional public school funding. When you enroll in OpenEd through our school partner, the program receives state education funding to support your child’s personalized learning plan. There is no cost to families for participation.

    • Flexibility to create a personalized education plan that works for your family
    • Access to a variety of learning options including:
      • Traditional school classes at your boundary district
      • Online courses and curriculum
      • Community classes (like art, music, or STEM programs)
      • Customized courses built around your child’s interests
    • Professional support from certified teachers
    • Funding for educational materials and approved programs
    • Ability to combine homeschool-style learning with public school resources

    Yes! One of the key benefits of OpenEd is the ability to take some classes at your boundary school while personalizing other parts of your education. Many students combine traditional school classes with other learning options.
