APHIST 061: United States History, Part 1 of 2
AP U.S. History, Part 1 covers the period from 1491 to 1877, focusing on key people, events, and ideas that shaped the early United States. Students will explore topics such as European exploration, the American Revolution, the Civil War, and Reconstruction while developing historical thinking skills and practicing essay writing and source analysis. This is the first course in a two-part series designed to prepare students for the AP U.S. History exam. The BYU Independent Study course includes a separate must-pass final exam for course credit but does not administer the AP exam or include its fee in tuition. Students must arrange to take the AP exam at a local school using the AP Course Ledger; be aware many schools have an ordering deadline of November 15th.
